Storytelling & Disability studies
- This is a link to an article entitled "Narrative and its potential contribution to disability studies" by Brett Smith and Andrew Sparkes from the journal Disability & Society. From their abstract:

    "This article seeks to expand our understanding of narrative and the analysis of stories researchers invite and collect in the domain of disability studies."

The authors provide a in-depth perspective on the use of narrative and storytelling in the world of disability. They offer some perspective on how we, as storytellers, can re-structure our stories and story structures to better fit the needs of those with disabilities.

Storytelling & Disability: A Story of Success
- A news article reporting a sucessful project at Victoria University in which a group of students used digital storytelling to empower people who face disabilities. This article gives a good idea of the potential benefits to be gained through an alliance between storytelling and disability.

Storytelling & Disability Awareness
- A Google books link to the book Special Stories for Disability Awareness: Stories and Activities for Teachers, Parents and Professionals by Mal Leicester, a collection of stories which Leicester believes hold themes of disability and disability awareness. Note that the Lion & the Mouse is not included. The book has an interesting discussion of storytelling for disabilities in the introduction.

Storytelling & Learning Disabilities
- A google books link to the book Learning Disability: A life cycle approach to valuing people edited by Gordon Grant, Peter Goward, Malcolm Richardson and Paul Ramcharan; the first chapter "Narratives and  people with learning disabilities" by Dorothy Atkinson is the most relevant as she discusses the importance of storytelling by those with disabilities and we think this resource can also help us understand how to tell stories in a relevant and meaningful way to those with learning disabilities.
